What is going on in NSW?

NSW Premier, Dominic Perrottet recently took a decision to set NSW Education backwards at least 50 years.  The Michaela Community school in the UK is famous for its super strict, archaic behaviourist treatment for all students in attendance and Dominic Perrottet thinks it's a model worth introducing here in Australia.

The Premier seems to have had some sort of "backward epiphany" and in his desperate attempt to win conservative votes, will introduce a Behaviour Advisor role to NSW schools and introduce even more of the behaviourist specialists into schools at the same time.

Why is this such a bad idea?

1. There has been no consultation with the students this will directly impact or their parents.

2. It's just more of the same.  It is widely accepted in all child psychology circles, that behaviourism doesn't work and is damaging.

3. Introducing more behaviourism goes against the UNCRPD human rights to inclusive education, all of the recent academic research about the impact of excessive discipline and exclusionary measures on vulnerable students such as Aboriginal students, students with disabilities and students in out of home care.

4. This new direction flies in the face of the key messages from Education Minister Sarah Mitchell in regards to supporting students with disabilities and taking heed of the Disability Royal Commission public hearing findings.
